The Big Country PENTHOUSE roof top tent is an aluminium hard shell design ideal for 4x4 overland adventure or family camping trips. The Penthouse tent, made in South Africa since 2005, has been expedition tested across the African continent. The roof tent has an aero shape which allows more space for bedding and ladder to be packed inside while closed (300mm overall height at the rear).

The Penthouse aluminium pop up roof top tent has a long list of features as standard. A robust easy to deploy hard shell tent - Pop two rear clips (made from 304 Stainless Steel) and tent opens up on powerful gas struts with ease. The tent opens up on heavy duty hinges, fabricated from 3Cr12 Stainless (3mm). For anti-condensation the tent has 3mm closed cell insulation floor and ceiling and 5mm automotive carpet finish interior.

The top of the tent casing is fitted with a pair of parrallel tracks (M8) making it easy to strap down additional baggage. It is best for lightweight items such as solar panels, bicycle racks, surf board and loadbars. Although the tent can withstand a spread load of up to 80 Kg when closed, to ensure the gas struts operate as designed heavier loads should be removed before opening.

The mattress is a high density 75mm composite consisting of a 50mm VP70 High density foam and 25mm VP45 Convoluted foam for extra comfort. The mattress cover can be easily removed and is waterproof, a poly-cotton fabric, and is 100% washable.

The grey canvas portion of the tent is removable, ideal if there are repairs required on the canvas, simply remove the entire tent by disconnecting the heavy duty 2" Velcro perimeter. The rain flysheet has a Velcro attachment and therefore removable if not required. It is deployed using two sprung steel rods.

The bottom of the tent is equipped with an array of 15 mm compatible track extrusions enabling a low profile mounting to virtually any surface. The roof top tent can be bolted to load cross bars or a flat roof rack for example.
